Salmonella are pathogenic gram-negative bacilli of the Enterobacteriaceae family, being the second most frequent cause of human gastrointestinal infection in the European Union. The great majority of infections are associated with the consumption of products such as: meat mainly from poultry, eggs, milk, seafood, fruits and vegetables contaminated with Salmonella.
